What is Content Optimization?

Content optimization is the process of making sure content is written or presented in an optimal way so that it ranks for our target keywords and drives clicks by achieving high CTRs.

Why is Content Optimization Important?

Content optimization helps ensure that all content that we create continues to drive maximum performance throughout its lifecycle. Performance can be measured by higher ranking positions, higher clicks, higher CTR etc.

What are the different types of content optimization?

  • Meta data optimization (Title, Meta desc., URL etc.)
  • Body content optimization
  • Featured snippet optimization
  • Multimedia Optimization (Add images or infographics or videos to rank in featured snippets or images or video SERPs etc.)

How Frequently Do We Work on Content Optimization?

Ideally, at least once every month

Who All are Involved in Content Optimization?

  • SEO: Conducts the content optimization exercise
  • Content Writer: Makes content improvements based on SEO Analysis
  • SEO/Site Manager: Implements the content improvements on live and measures the results

Content Optimization Process

  1. Select a list of articles to optimize based on search opportunity or campaign priority
  2. Do SERP landscape analysis and competitor content analysis for the target pages and their target keywords
  3. Read through the page’s current content thoroughly to check whether the content is AI generated or not
  4. Run the article through Page Optimizer Pro to understand the gaps in terms of keywords missing from the page
  5. Check the content length and body copy to understand whether the content serves user intent and is comprehensive enough to its best abilities
  6. Analyze the content performance using tools like GSC, GA, Ahrefs etc.
  7. Update the On-Page Tracker tab with recommendations
  8. Assign this to a writer in the content tracker sheet for that client
  9. Review the content received from the writer
  10. Implement the changes on live
  11. Update the article publish date
  12. Submit the article for reindexing
  13. Measure the results post implementation using tools (15-day and 30-day analysis)
  14. Report the results to the client and internal team in client channels or monthly reports

 

How to Use the Content Optimization Tracker?

The content optimization tracker has 3 parts:

  • On-Page Checklist: A checklist of all important elements to look when optimizing content or providing optimization recommendations
  • On-Page Tracker: This tab is the master list and a top-level analysis of which articles need to be reoptimized or what type of changes need to be recommended to every article
